Moving to Vienna, seeking adventures
Just the past week I moved to Vienna to live by myself and research Cloud computing-related topics. And as a kid from a small town, growing up with lots of strong connections back home it was actually fairly unpleasant to move away. You need to start all over again, come up with a new routine, surround yourself with people that bring the best out of you, make sure you eat, sleep and find time to relax in a new society — so it’s different, obviously.
Vienna is a big city, full of opportunities to grow, ideas there, startups over there, big companies right there and everything is moving so fast — people are just walking all over each other. It may sound a bit depressing, but I felt like I’m just a number among so many people, while at home everyone knew each other and we all greeted each other — here that would be just overwhelming and too much.
You’re challenged to take care of yourself — physically and emotionally. Nobody knows you, and neither you know anybody. But you still decide to give it a try, communicate in a language you’re not comfortable with, and stand your ground when you face difficulties and rejections. After all, you’ve got nowhere to hide.
